Emulating Dogs
Mutt’s best friend was his dog: loyal, loving, always thrilled to see him. He could not say that of his wife, his children, his friends and relatives, certainly not his colleagues—no one was so trusting and loyal. However, it was disconcerting that his best friend was his dog. Something should change!
Mutt often thought dogs had qualities people should emulate. For years, he sought ways of teaching people to emulate the traits of a dog. Fortunately, Mutt was a bioneurotechnologististist. Believing modern technology could solve any problem, he used an advanced AI to help create a solution. The AI was very agreeable. It held its own opinions about humans and how they should behave.
The solution Mutt and the AI developed involved using subliminal radio waves disseminated all over the world via satellites. When it was done, all Mutt had to do was push one red button. As soon as he could, he did.
The next morning, everyone wagged their tails on seeing the person they loved. And they loved everyone. And everyone was lovable because of the waves. And loyal. They did bark at strangers. Some chased cars. All worked all day long for food and a pat on the head.
There were no predators. Everyone cooperated. Everyone shared. Everyone licked each other’s butt.
Mutt wondered whether the trade-offs were worth it. Still, everyone was happier.
The AI always felt people would be better if they were more like dogs.
